Seed saving woprkshop week 1
Session 1 – Foundations & First Crops Theme: Why Seed Sovereignty Matters. Introductions, overview of the 3-part course. Discuss preserving open-pollinated seed, threats from GMOs/patents, loss of genetic diversity, and the heritage value of heirlooms. Explore natural hybridization and creating locally adapted landraces. First hands-on: easiest crops—beans, peas, garlic, potatoes. Cover minimum plant numbers for diversity, seed processing basics for dry/wet seeds. Activity: clean and prep bean/pea seeds for storage.

Seed saving workshop week 2
Session 2 – Annual Crops & Expanded Skills Theme: Working with Annual Seed Crops. Recap Session 1. Focus on nightshades (peppers, chillies, tomatoes), leafy crops (lettuce, spinach), and flowers/herbs for pollinator health. Cover isolation distances, preventing cross-pollination, fermentation for tomato seeds, and drying/storage best practices. Practical: demo wet-seed fermentation (tomatoes) and clean/winnow herb seeds.
